Lessons for Aging Well

Lessons for Aging Well

Have you ever encountered a person so motivating that completely changed your viewpoint on life? A loved one with exceptional drive and energy can help make them stand out from the rest, leaving you curious to what sets them apart.

That person’s drive and energy that can set them apart from others can be attributed to a few factors such as their passion for what they do, their strong work ethic and their ability to stay focused and motivated. It could be possible that they have developed effective strategies for managing their priorities and time, allowing them to accomplish more in less time. With loved ones having a positive and a strong belief in their own abilities, that may help them overcome their challenges and setbacks. It is helpful to remember that everyone is unique, and what may work for one may not work for another. However by observing and learning from those who stand out, we can gain valuable insight and inspiration to help our loved ones achieve their own goals and aspirations.

  • They don’t let their hurdles define them. Jacquie Murdock, is a 87-year-old former professional and current fashionista, is a great example of determination and strength. Despite being sight-impaired and a cancer survivor, she has continued to embrace life with passion and style. Dorian Block, the director of the project, underlines how Jacquie’s health and challenges are merely a backdrop to her vibrant and inspiring story.
  • They comprehend that wealth  isn’t connected to joy.  A study has revealed that a loved one's happiness can stem from various sources unrelated to their income. They may include singing in a church choir, sharing humor, and spending time with friends and family.
  • They acknowledge the loneliness that can go along with growing older. Aging and loneliness can go hand in hand due to health issues, friends moving away, and the recent social isolation caused by the pandemic. When facing loneliness directly can lead to finding solutions and creative ways to foster socialization opportunities.
  •  They face the reality of their mortality. It is astonishing to note that the majority of our seniors in the project are not afraid to discuss their own mortality. They demonstrate their gratitude for the fulfilling lives they have lived and appreciate each day they are able to thrive.
